- Develop your regional community from scratch — a practical guide
RedStone France community was created in January 2024 and, within 9 months, became the most active regional RedStone community. It has just been officially recognized as a regional community by RedStone in August 2024, which means closer ties with the core team and new development opportunities. Based on our experience, RedStone France team offers you this practical guide to help you save time in building your regional community from scratch and avoiding common pitfalls. 1/ Why Build a Regional Community? First, let’s talk about the reasons that might motivate you to embark on such a project. It’s not an easy task, especially if you’re starting alone. But we assure you that the effort is worth it! A. Supporting a Project You Believe In Today, RedStone is one of the few architecture projects in the market amidst a wave of copy-paste projects, scams, and ones with no added value. Developing a strong regional community is the best way to highlight the project and support it sustainably. It’s important for the health of the crypto ecosystem that valuable projects are supported organically. We also believe that members engage more in a community that speaks their language because language barriers limit constructive exchanges or require much effort, both in speaking and content creation. Developing strong regional communities is thus a great way to attract and retain members in the long term. B. Meet People Who Share Your Passion Your involvement will certainly be noticed by like-minded people who will follow you because it benefits them or simply because they have been waiting for someone like you to take the initiative! Whether you start alone or in a group, this project will lead to numerous virtual connections and real-life meetings, especially through events with other regional communities. In fact, several members of the RedStone France team have met in person and also interacted with other miners and members of RedStone’s core team at various events! And little alpha: a meet-up in France is being planned for later this year. C. Expand Your Network and Resume This brings us to the third point: expanding your network within a field you love. While it’s not the main goal, it does count! Often, opportunities arise from unexpected encounters. Additionally, leadership activities like this are highly valued on resumes in many fields, whether for work or academic purposes. It’s a win-win: you help others while developing your personal skills. D. Improve Your Knowledge Translating content into your native language and assisting new members will require you to be knowledgeable and up-to-date on the project and its developments, whether regarding partnerships or tech! This is the best way to dive deeper into the subject and truly understand how the crypto ecosystem works. E. Cross-Community Events Collaborating with other RedStone regional communities will expose you to different countries and cultures, which can lead to personal growth and possibly future travels! F. The Role of Local Miner Once you prove yourself to the RedStone team, your community will be eligible for official recognition. This opens the door to collaborations with the team and the prestigious role of Local Miner, along with 850k RSG. 2/How to Develop Your Regional Community? Now, let’s get into the practical aspects. A. Getting Started We believe it’s essential to have two communication platforms: Twitter : for visibility and reaching the largest audience. Discord : for centralizing information and social interactions. Bonus : If you have extra time or your team expands, using a Medium account to translate RedStone’s interesting articles and reports can be a valuable addition. B. Discord Channels When migrating from the RedStone France Discord server to the official RedStone server after being recognized as an official community, we sorted out which channels to keep. Here are the ones we consider essential and their utility: #french : the community’s general channel. #announcements : important updates from the official server. #twitter : centralizes Twitter posts from your regional account. #articles : centralizes new articles from your regional account. #help-events : gathers all ongoing events with a discussion thread for community questions. #game-mine : the gaming channel. #applications : for members interested in joining the team to send their cover letters. #team-france : discussion channel reserved for RedStone France team. #tavern : an audio lounge for the community to relax and chat. #team-call : an audio channel reserved for RedStone France team meetings. Example of RedStone France community organization If you choose to create your own regional server, it might be useful to have a few additional channels already present on the official server, such as official links (with your social media links), a translated FAQ, and a “meme” channel if you enjoy humor! C. Recruitment: “Alone we go faster, together we go further.” Regardless of your skills, a day only has 24 hours! And as your community grows, it will become harder to manage it alone. It would be a shame to miss out on motivated individuals, so we recommend setting up an application system from the start to let newcomers know they, too, can be part of the adventure. For the application format Be explicit about your expectations and the format that candidates should follow. This will save time for both of you. In other words, it could be as simple as a cover letter, but don’t hesitate to specify what the candidate should include. For example: A description of their background Their motivations Their skills Their content related to RedStone What they plan to bring to your team that’s new and unique D. Roles: Covering All Needs Recruiting a team helps distribute tasks more efficiently, ensuring each one is done effectively. After 9 months, these are the profiles we use today that we believe form a solid base for community operations: Translator/Communications Manager : The primary goal is to translate content into your native language! This role also involves managing various communication platforms and keeping the Discord categories updated. It requires time and availability to stay up-to-date daily. If any question on this part, you can contact Jab on discord. Game Master : Reading articles and posts can be dull and unengaging! To bring your server to life and allow members to connect and have fun, we think it’s essential to create organic activities like weekly games. If any question on this part, you can contact Khees. Marketing Manager : Once your community becomes cohesive, you need new members to grow it. Word of mouth isn’t always enough, so it’s crucial to have someone responsible for reaching out to local media, influencers, and other regional communities. If any question on this part, you can contact SebC. Content Creator : Translating official content is a good start, but we encourage you to create your own informative or educational content (e.g., event summaries or content creation guides) and foster innovative content from your community. If any question on this part, you can contact the artist of the team Chachalotte. Note that these roles are clearly defined here for simplicity, but in practice, responsibilities may overlap depending on each person’s availability, relationships, skills, and teamwork. In our case, for example, everyone helps manage the community to assist members and cover a broader range of time zones, which is why there isn’t a dedicated position. This teamwork approach is crucial because it ensures continuity of activities. Everyone has their personal schedules, vacations, and obligations; working together allows you to step in and cover each other’s tasks when necessary, ensuring there are no periods of inactivity. Obviously, what we propose is a basic framework and not exhaustive. Any application that brings added value to the team is worth considering — the potential is limitless! However, it’s important to ensure the coherence of a role before creating it. Having multiple people doing the same task or creating roles with no real purpose can have the opposite effect: an overly large team will lose efficiency, especially in communication and organization, and “phantom” roles will reduce the team’s credibility. E. Partnerships Continuous promotion is essential for growing a community. Here are partnerships to seek: Language-specific communities focused on specific topics (e.g., airdrop farmers, DeFi enthusiasts). Language-specific communities of other active projects. Crypto media in your country (websites, Twitter, YouTube). Influencers in your country. Don’t hesitate to contact people who seem too popular for you — your only risk is that they might say yes! The proposed partnerships can take many forms: collaborative games, contests, giveaways, creating and providing specific content upon request, written interviews, participation in a podcast/live session, collaborative articles… Don’t limit yourself! F. The Creation of community events Community events are an excellent way to generate additional activity for your community. There are numerous events that can be organized, but there are also several fundamental rules necessary for their proper functioning: Don’t aim too big. If you plan to propose large-scale events or ones that require extensive content creation, allow for a longer time frame to give your community enough time to produce this content. This also applies to you, as evaluating the content can take time. Be fair with rewards. The rewards should be attractive, but also proportional to the effort required by the content you’re asking for. For example, a content creation or art contest that takes several hours and involves research should logically offer more rewards than a 30-minute gaming session. Plan ahead. Last-minute plans are rarely the most beneficial, so be prepared! As mentioned in part E above, if you want to organize a community event in collaboration with other communities, consider reaching out to them well in advance to ensure the event’s feasibility and availability. They might also have busy schedules! Work on your visuals. Don’t hesitate to create designs using sites like Canva ( https://www.canva.com/ ) to present your idea in a clean and visually appealing way to grab the attention of your community. Design examples G. Tips and Pitfalls to Avoid To wrap up, here’s a list of practical tips and traps to avoid: Only using Twitter or Discord : We initially started with just Twitter for a month, but quickly realized it wasn’t enough to create a tight-knit community. Save time by starting with both platforms from the beginning. Keeping the community engaged : Once you’ve built a community, the challenge is retaining members. Keep in mind that there are thousands of other communities out there, so you need to give your members reasons to stay. This requires continuous involvement through activities like games, contests, workshops, or in-person meetups — anything to keep the community active and engaged. Horizontal organization : This means there’s no hierarchy among team members. You need to build a relationship based on mutual communication to ensure the team works well together and remains sustainable. However, having a “Leader” is necessary to guide the team. This person coordinates tasks and meetings, sets deadlines, but always works in consultation with the rest of the team. Actually, successful team relationships allow each member to emerge as a leader when his expertise is needed and then blend again into “team-ness”. Holding regular meetings : These don’t need to be long, but they are crucial for ensuring everything is running smoothly and that progress is being made on various projects. It’s easy to forget things or fall behind, so meetings help establish a roadmap with regular checkpoints. Utilize your culture : Leverage the unique aspects of your country during certain events. This allows members to add their personal touch, which can be appreciated by the whole community. For example, we organized a logo competition for RedStone France, where participants had to incorporate references related to France. You can find all the submitted contents here: https://x.com/RedStone_France/status/1783626697260085634 . Use planning tools and a shared drive for your team: There are many tools available to help track and visualize your team’s progress. Google Drive, for example, allows you to share files and documents to assist in tracking ongoing contests and events, sharing, and editing presentations and files simultaneously, and so on. Example of an activity dashboard on Google drive shared by the team Don’t hesitate to take it a step further by using tools like Trello ( https://trello.com/ ) to set deadlines for specific milestones that need to be met. H. How RedStone’s official sub-communities actually operate None of this would be possible without the support and innovative vision of the RedStone team. The more you grow, the more RedStone will support you: from dedicated RSG pools to financial backing and assistance with organizing meet-ups, not to mention providing super cool merch! How does it work? The team has established a 2-level system: 1) Local Language Chat ( Level 1 ): Can be created at the request of the Vein Master if there are at least 3–5 members of the same nationality. 2) Local Community ( Level 2 ): A separate category that allows for creating additional channels and tailored environment. To achieve this level, you need to bootstrap a vibrant local community. The supervising team will hold the @Local Miner role. What does this mean? It means you don’t even need to create another server! You can start by developing your discord community directly on the official server under the eyes of the administrators, and set everything up in the channel dedicated to you. This will give you visibility, and you’ll be able to unlock level 2 with consistency! You’re part of a project that truly cares about its community, and believe us, that’s rare, so make the most of it! If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact us on the RedStone discord or on Twitter: https://x.com/RedStone_France , we’ll be happy to help you get your community off the ground! . . .
